Gardiners Warehouse stands on Straight Street in Bristol's Broad Plain district, a striking example of the Bristol Byzantine Revival style built in 1865 by architect William Bruce Gingell. Originally constructed as part of Christopher Thomas and Brothers' soap works, the structure is distinguished by ornamental details characteristic of the period, though some of its original Florentine skyline ornament has been lost over time. Grade II listed by English Heritage, the building has housed Gardiner Haskins, an independent homeware retailer founded in 1893, since 1958, and now sits adjacent to the Brunel Garden Centre, which opened in 1997. The warehouse was slated to be vacated by Gardiner Haskins in 2018 when the company announced plans to relocate to a new showroom across the street.
