The Garland House, located in Dubuque, Iowa, is a Georgian Revival residence built by insurance magnate Joseph C. Garland, who established a thriving general insurance agency representing Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company across 25 Iowa counties. The house presents an unusual architectural hybrid: its large Colonial Revival form is clad in concrete block veneer, a striking departure from traditional materials. The main façade features a commanding two-story pedimented portico, while the east elevation displays a centered semicircular vault dormer and the rear a two-story veranda, all crowned by a hip roof with dormers. Listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, the house was later designated a contributing property to the Langworthy Historic District in 2004, reflecting its significance to Dubuque's architectural heritage.
