The Gate of the Chain is one half of a double gate providing access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. Standing 4.5 meters high, it exemplifies Islamic architecture and was known in the early Islamic period as Bāb Daud (David's Gate). The gate also acquired the name Bāb al-Maḥkama, or Gate of the Law Court, from the nearby Sharīʿa court housed in the adjacent Tankiziyya building.
