Herod's Gate is one of seven open gates piercing the Old City walls of Jerusalem, connecting the Muslim Quarter within the ancient fortifications to the Palestinian neighborhood of Bab az-Zahra beyond. Built in 1875 in Islamic architectural style, the gate stands at an elevation of 755 meters above sea level, positioned a short distance east of the Damascus Gate. Known in Arabic as Bab az-Zahra and in Hebrew as Sha'ar HaPrakhim ("Flowers Gate"), it remains an important passage between the densely populated quarters of the old city and the modern neighborhoods that have grown outside its walls.
