The Huldah Gates, located in Jerusalem's Old City, are two sets of monumental entrances built into the southern wall of the Temple Mount during the Herodian period and later modified under Muslim rule. Named in the Mishnah after their original function in the Hasmonean era, the gates consist of a western Double Gate with two arches and an eastern Triple Gate with three arches. Both provided access to the Temple Mount esplanade via underground vaulted ramps. Though walled up during the Middle Ages, the surviving structures retain scattered Herodian architectural elements, though most of the visible work today dates from the Islamic period, reflecting centuries of modification and use across multiple eras.
