Built in 1875 in Osceola, Iowa, the George H. and Alice Spaulding Cowles House is a high-style Italianate residence whose architect remains unknown. The two-story brick structure features a rectangular plan beneath a hipped roof crowned with a cupola, shallow side wings, and single-story bays. Its ornamentation includes front and side porches, small gabled dormers along the front and side roof lines, and two large brick chimneys with decorative venting caps. Originally commissioned by banker George Cowles, who had moved to Osceola in 1869, the house later passed to Dr. Jason Roberts and his wife Mary F.Q. Roberts. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
