The George W. Smith House, a shingle-style residence at 404 Home Avenue in Oak Park, Illinois, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1895 and constructed three years later. Built for a Marshall Field & Company salesman, the house exemplifies Wright's early work in the Chicago suburb. Notable for its architectural influence, design elements from the Smith House were later employed by Wright in the Unity Temple, also located in Oak Park and completed a decade after the house's construction. The residence is recognized as a contributing property to the Ridgeland-Oak Park Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in December 1983.
