At 1027 Chicago Avenue in Oak Park, Illinois, the Thomas H. Gale House stands as an important early work by Frank Lloyd Wright, designed in 1892 while the architect was employed at the firm of Adler & Sullivan. Built in the Queen Anne style, the residence represents a significant moment in Wright's development, undertaken as an independent commission despite Louis Sullivan's prohibition against outside work. Now designated both an Oak Park Landmark (2002) and a contributing property to a U.S. federally registered historic district, the house documents Wright's emerging architectural vision during his formative years in suburban Chicago.
