Gethsemane Chapel was a small Armenian Apostolic church located in Yerevan's historical Shahar district, built by the end of the 17th century as a single-nave basilica to replace a 13th-century domed structure destroyed in the 1679 earthquake. The chapel, which stood surrounded by the old Yerevan cemetery, underwent complete renovation in 1901 thanks to a donation from the prominent Melik-Aghamalyan family. It was demolished during the 1920s to clear land for the construction of the Yerevan Opera Theater on what is now Tumanyan street.
