Glenkerry House is a 14-storey Brutalist tower block on the Brownfield Estate in Poplar, London, completed in 1977 by the studio of controversial architect Ernő Goldfinger. The Grade II listed building contains 79 flats—four maisonettes and 75 apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms—and stands alongside Goldfinger's other works on the estate, the Grade II* listed Balfron Tower and Grade II listed Carradale House. Since 1979, it has operated as a self-managed housing cooperative, with residents purchasing leaseholds at half their assessed valuation. Unlike many postwar high-rise blocks, Glenkerry House has proven superior in design and construction quality. Its cooperative model—which grants members equity stakes while keeping homes permanently affordable—has become widely regarded as exemplary for affordable housing, despite receiving no support from the Conservative government of the 1980s.
