Göksholm is a medieval castle situated on the southern shore of Lake Hjälmaren in Örebro Municipality, Sweden, notable for being the oldest privately owned building in the country to have remained continuously inhabited. Its oldest sections date to the 13th century, though the castle developed Renaissance features in its architectural ensemble. The site holds significant historical importance: in 1436, Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson, leader of a popular uprising and holder of the governmental title rikshövitsman, was murdered on its lands by Måns Bengtsson, the heir of the castle's then-owner. Today it stands as an individually listed building complex of considerable cultural heritage value.
