The Grande Écurie, located on the Place d'Armes in Versailles opposite the palace, is a monumental stable designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and completed in 1682. Built to house the king's hunting and war horses, it was equipped with a riding hall and formed part of the Royal Stables—a vast institution that employed around a thousand people under Louis XIV. Standing between the avenues of Saint-Cloud and Paris, the building once worked in tandem with the smaller Petite Écurie to serve the crown's extensive equestrian needs. Today it is classified as a historical monument.
