The Grand Trianon is a French Baroque château built in 1687 within the Domain of Versailles, designed by Louis Le Vau, André Le Nôtre, and Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Constructed of Languedoc marble, this maison de plaisance was commissioned by Louis XIV as an intimate retreat for himself and Madame de Montespan, offering respite from the formality of court life and a setting for informal meals with guests. Located in the northwestern section of the Versailles estate, the Grand Trianon stands within its own park, which also encompasses the Petit Trianon, a smaller château built during the reign of Louis XV in the 1760s.
