The Hacienda Arms Apartments, a four-story Mediterranean and Italian Renaissance Revival structure built in 1927 on Hollywood's Sunset Strip, began as a luxury apartment building serving the entertainment industry. The 52,000-square-foot complex became notorious in the 1930s as California's "most famous brothel" before declining in prestige through the mid-twentieth century. Acquired by rock star Rod Stewart in the 1970s, the building survived a suspicious 1983 fire and was extensively renovated, operating since 1986 as the Piazza del Sol. Today it houses production company offices, including those of Miramax Films, and the acclaimed restaurant Katana.
