The Hacienda, completed in 1930 in Monterey County near Jolon, California, is a Spanish Colonial Revival and Moorish Revival hotel designed by Julia Morgan for William Randolph Hearst. Built to replace a wooden structure destroyed by fire in the 1920s, the lodge originally served as temporary housing and headquarters for Hearst's employees, guests, and business activities. Morgan's design expanded upon the earlier Milpitas Ranch House, creating a more substantial building known by several names including Milpitas Hacienda and Hearst Hacienda Lodge before entering the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The property was sold to the United States Army in 1940 and now operates as a public hotel within Fort Hunter Liggett, offering guest rooms and a bar to visitors who present valid reservations and identification at the base's staffed gate.
