Whitley Court is a cluster of Spanish Colonial bungalows constructed between 1903 and 1919 just north of Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The complex began with a two-story Colonial Revival house featuring a round bay turret, designed by Dennis & Farwell for the Whitley family and built in 1903; this original structure was later relocated to the rear of the property to accommodate four additional two-story residential buildings. Originally built to house workers in the rapidly expanding film industry, the complex became home to notable entertainers including actress Theda Bara in the 1920s and Sylvia Sidney in the 1930s. The buildings were adapted for mixed residential and office use in 1974. During the 1992 Los Angeles riots, residents famously protected the structures from nearby fires with garden hoses. Whitley Court was designated a Historic Cultural Monument in 1988 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
