Completed in 1911 for the French colonial administration in Hanoi, the Opera House stands at August Revolution Square as a landmark of eclectic Neoclassical design. Originally built as the Hanoi Municipal Theater between 1901 and 1911, it anchors the head of Tràng Tiền street in central Hanoi. The building is one of three opera houses constructed during the French colonial period in Indochina, alongside the Haiphong and Saigon opera houses, representing the architectural ambitions of colonial cultural institutions.
