Saigon Opera House, completed in 1900 in downtown Ho Chi Minh City, is a 500-seat Beaux-Arts theatre designed by French architects during Vietnam's colonial period. Like its counterparts in Hanoi and Haiphong, it exemplifies French Colonial architecture in the region. Beyond its original purpose as a performance venue, the building served multiple political functions: it housed South Vietnam's unicameral National Assembly from 1956 to 1967, then its bicameral legislature until 1975, when it briefly accommodated the People's Congress of Deputies. The building returned to theatrical use in 1976, and its façade underwent restoration in 1998.
