The Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre in Glen Iris, Melbourne, is a striking example of Brutalist architecture, located at the corner of High Street and Edgar Street. Originally constructed as a municipal swimming baths in 1927, the facility was comprehensively renovated in 1967 by Australian architects Kevin Borland and Daryl Jackson to meet increased demand for swimming participation. The renovation transformed it into a modern public pool complex that exemplifies the bold, sculptural qualities of Brutalism. Named after Prime Minister Harold Holt, the local member for the Division of Higgins, the centre was dedicated following Holt's apparent drowning death while the renovation was underway. Today it is recognised as a heritage structure on the Victorian Heritage Register.
