The Heard Building, a seven-story high-rise in Phoenix, Arizona, stands as the first skyscraper erected in the city, constructed between 1919 and 1920 in the Chicago School style. Also known as the Greater Arizona Savings Building, it served as the home of The Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Gazette from 1920 to 1948. Though it held the distinction of Arizona's tallest structure for only four years—until the completion of the Luhrs Building in 1924—the Heard Building remains a landmark of Phoenix's early twentieth-century urban development and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
