Highclere Castle is a Grade I listed country house in Highclere, Hampshire, England, originally built in 1679 and substantially renovated during the 1840s by architect Charles Barry in the Jacobethan and Italianate style. Set within a 5,000-acre estate featuring a park designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century, the castle has served as the country seat of the Earls of Carnarvon since its inception. The house has become internationally renowned as the principal filming location for the television series *Downton Abbey* (2010–15) and subsequent films based on it. Today, the house, Egyptian exhibition, and gardens are open to the public during the summer months and at seasonal intervals, while the estate also hosts ticketed events and guided tours throughout the year.
