Castle Howard is a monumental English Baroque country house designed by John Vanbrugh and begun in 1699, located in Henderskelfe, North Yorkshire, fifteen miles north of York. Built as a private residence, it has remained the seat of the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for more than three centuries. The house has achieved prominence as a filming location for numerous productions, most notably Granada Television's 1981 adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's *Brideshead Revisited* and a 2008 film adaptation of the same work. Designated a Grade I listed building, Castle Howard stands as a significant example of English Baroque architecture.
