The Highlands Historic District, located within Grand Teton National Park in Teton County, Wyoming, is a former private inholding that evolved from a 1914 homestead into a distinctive tourist accommodation. Built beginning in the 1920s by original owners Harry and Elizabeth Sensenbach, the property was expanded substantially after 1946 by Charles Byron and Jeanne Jenkins, who added cabins year by year in a U-shaped arrangement around a central lodge. Constructed in the rustic log style characteristic of National Park Service architecture, the Highlands occupied a unique niche between auto camps and dude ranches, catering to visitors seeking moderate-length stays with sedentary amenities. It remained the last private-accommodation camp built in the park before the Mission 66 program shifted such facilities to concessioner-operated sites on public lands. The National Park Service purchased the property in 1972 for seasonal employee housing, and the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
