Iranistan was a Moorish Revival mansion erected in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1848 for showman P. T. Barnum, designed by Bohemian-American architect Leopold Eidlitz. The grandiose structure served as Barnum's country seat and hosted a notable array of visitors including the Hutchinson Family Singers, Matthew Arnold, George Armstrong Custer, Horace Greeley, and Mark Twain. The building stood for only a decade before being destroyed by fire in 1857, one of five major fires that would consume Barnum's accomplishments throughout his life.
