In the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, the Jama Masjid stands as a monumental Friday mosque built during the reign of Hoshang Shah and completed in 1454 CE under Mahmud Khilji. Constructed in Mughal style, the structure displays remarkable architectural ambition: its 7,725 square metres span an elevated platform 4.6 metres high and encompasses three large domes, fifty-four smaller domes, a spacious courtyard, and colonnaded pillared halls with decorated pillars. Inscriptions on the eastern doorway indicate the mosque was modeled after the Mosque of Damascus. Now recognized as a Monument of National Importance, the Jama Masjid forms part of the Group of Monuments at Mandu, maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India's Bhopal circle, and remains central to the region's status as a major tourist destination.
