The Jamia Masjid is a congregational mosque located at Nowhatta in the Old City of Srinagar, Kashmir, commissioned by Sultan Sikandar in 1394 and completed in 1402 at the behest of Mir Mohammad Hamadani. Built in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, it stands as one of Kashmir's most important mosques and occupies a central place in Srinagar's religio-political life, presided over by the mirwaiz of Kashmir. Beyond its religious significance, the mosque has served across generations as a venue for anti-Indian protests and a platform for debating the politics of the Kashmir conflict.
