The Janáček Theatre in Brno, Czech Republic, is the largest opera house of the National Theatre Brno, designed by architects Libuše Žáčková-Pokorová, Vilém Zavřel, Otakar Oplatek, and Jan Víšek. Completed in 1965 after construction began in 1960, following decades of earlier delays, the building opened that October and has since premiered roughly twenty operas and ballets. Its north-facing façade orients away from the city center toward the nearby residence of composer Leoš Janáček, who is grandly memorialized on the adjacent landscaped grounds. The theatre underwent major renovation in 2018 and holds protected cultural monument status in the Czech Republic.
