The John J. Glessner House, located at 1800 South Prairie Avenue in Chicago, is a masterwork of Richardsonian Romanesque design completed in late 1887. Designed by renowned architect Henry Hobson Richardson between 1885 and 1886, this Gilded Age residence exemplifies the architect's distinctive style with its robust masonry forms and inventive spatial planning. The house has been recognized for its architectural significance through multiple designations: it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, designated a Chicago Landmark that same year, and honored as a National Historic Landmark in 1976. Today, it operates as a house museum, preserving both the structure and the lifestyle of its original owners during America's Gilded Age.
