The Isidore H. Heller House, a brick residence completed in 1896 at 5132 South Woodlawn Avenue in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, stands as a landmark in Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural evolution. Designed for merchant Isidore H. Heller, the house marks a pivotal turn toward Wright's geometric Prairie School style, characterized by horizontal lines, flat roof overhangs, and bands of grouped windows that integrate the building with its landscape. The facade, topped by a monitor roof section, features ornamentation by sculptor Richard Bock, including a plaster frieze. The composition—with living, dining, and kitchen spaces arranged around a central stair and elevator on the first floor, bedrooms above, and former servants' quarters on the third level—reflects Wright's progressive spatial planning. Now a National Historic Landmark and Chicago Landmark, the house demonstrates Wright's deliberate departure from his mentor Louis Sullivan's aesthetic toward the geometric vocabulary that would define his prairie-period work.
