Built in 1889 for John Milton Thayer, a Union Army general and prominent Nebraska politician who served as the state's sixth governor, this Queen Anne style house in Lincoln exemplifies the architectural tastes of the Gilded Age elite. Thayer, whose career spanned military service during the Civil War, a term as U.S. Senator, and the governorships of Wyoming Territory and Nebraska, commissioned a residence befitting his status. The house was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in December 2002.
