The Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque, located in the Tophane neighbourhood of Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, is an Ottoman complex built between 1580 and 1587 by the celebrated architect Mimar Sinan, who designed it in his 90s. Constructed for Kapudan-i Derya (Grand Admiral) Kılıç Ali Pasha, the mosque itself was completed in 1578–1580, positioned deliberately beside the sea to reflect the patron's naval rank. The complex comprises not only the mosque but also a medrese, hamam, türbe, and fountain, representing a fully developed Ottoman külliye. Originally standing at the water's edge along the Bosphorus, the mosque's waterfront setting has since been obscured by landfill and modern development, including the nearby Galataport cruise terminal.
