Katz Castle rises on a rocky ledge above Sankt Goarshausen in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, commanding a view downstream toward the opposite riverbank at Sankt Goar. Built around 1371 by Count William II of Katzenelnbogen, the fortress was heavily damaged during Napoleon's bombardment in 1806, then underwent substantial reconstruction between 1896 and 1898. Now designated a Kulturdenkmal and privately owned, the castle remains closed to the public.
