Perched on a steep ridge above Jenbach in the Austrian Tyrol, Tratzberg Castle exemplifies late Gothic and early Renaissance palace architecture of the alpine Holy Roman Empire. Though foundations date to 1296, the castle was substantially rebuilt in its present form around 1500 by brothers Veit-Jakob and Simon Tänzl. Today owned by Count Ulrich Goëss-Enzenberg and his wife Katrin, it stands as one of Austria's best-preserved castles, retaining many original furnishings and fittings. The site now operates as a museum.
