The King Fahad Mosque in Culver City, California, is an Islamic architectural complex built with Saudi financing and named after King Fahad of Saudi Arabia. Completed in 1998 after construction began in April 1996, the mosque accommodates 2,000 worshippers and features a 72-foot minaret. The 77,500-square-foot complex includes a lecture and meeting hall and classrooms. Funding for the land came in 1993 from Prince Abdulaziz Bin Fahad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, a Saudi cabinet minister, while King Fahad pledged construction funds in 1995. The opening ceremony in July 1998 was attended by former White House chief of staff John Sununu. The mosque is owned and managed by The Islamic Foundation of Shaikh Ibn Taymiyyah.
