Königsberg Castle was the principal seat of the Teutonic Order's grand masters and of the Prussian dukes and kings, originally founded as a fortress by the Teutonic Knights in the 1250s and expanded into a Gothic castle over subsequent centuries. Located in Königsberg (present-day Kaliningrad, Russia), the structure survived World War II with its exterior walls largely intact despite severe damage. Following the 1946 Soviet annexation of East Prussia, the castle's remains were systematically demolished by the Soviet government, with demolition finally completed in 1968. The site was subsequently occupied by the House of Soviets, an unfinished structure that remained unused for decades until its own demolition in 2024.
