Königsberg Cathedral is a Brick Gothic monument in Kaliningrad, Russia, built beginning in 1333 on Kneiphof island in the Pregolya river. Originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Adalbert of Prague, it served as the see of the Prince-Bishops of Samland in the 14th century. Following the establishment of the secular Duchy of Prussia, the cathedral became the Lutheran Albertina University church in 1544. As the most significant preserved building of the former city of Königsberg—which was largely destroyed in World War II—the cathedral suffered severe damage when its spire and roof burned after two RAF bombing raids in late August 1944. Reconstruction efforts began in 1992, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and today it remains a federal cultural heritage site in Russia.
