Situated on Berlin's Gendarmenmarkt square in the Mitte district, the Konzerthaus Berlin is a neoclassical concert hall designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and completed in 1821. Originally constructed as a theater, it operated under various names—first as the Schauspielhaus Berlin from 1818 to 1821, then as the Theater am Gendarmenmarkt and Komödie—before being converted to a concert hall following the Second World War. The building adopted its present name in 1994 and now serves as home to the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, while also hosting the Young Euro Classic festival of youth orchestras each summer. The structure is recognized as an architectural heritage monument.
