The Kremlin Armoury, located in the Moscow Kremlin, is one of the oldest museums in Moscow and part of the Moscow Kremlin Museum. Originating as a royal arsenal in 1508, it functioned as the center for producing, purchasing, and storing weapons, jewelry, and household articles for the tsars until the court's relocation to St. Petersburg. The institution employed the finest Muscovite craftsmen, including gunsmiths like the Vyatkin brothers, jeweler Gavrila Ovdokimov, and painter Simon Ushakov. Iconography and painting studios were established in 1640 and 1683 to teach these crafts, and in 1700 the Armoury was enriched with treasures from the Russian tsars' Golden and Silver chambers. The building, designed by architect Konstantin Thon and completed in 1806, exemplifies Russian Revival and Byzantine Revival architectural styles, and is designated a federal cultural heritage site in Russia.
