The Polytechnic Museum in Moscow's Tverskoy District is one of the world's oldest science museums, founded in 1872 on the bicentennial of Peter the Great's birth following the first All-Russian Technical Exhibition. Designed by architect Ippolit Monighetti in the Russian Revival style, the original building was completed in 1877, with a north wing added in 1896 and a south wing in 1907. As Russia's largest technical museum, it houses over 220,000 artifacts across 65 halls documenting Russian and Soviet scientific and technological achievement, from 18th-century automata and early computers to pioneering instruments such as Boris Borisovich Galitzine's seismograph, Pavel Yablochkov's electric lights, and Moritz von Jacobi's galvanoplastics, alongside displays spanning chemistry, mining, transport, energy, and space exploration.
