Established in 1982 in Kyiv, the Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Youth occupies the premises of the Slavutych Theatre, a building with earlier roots as the "Kharchovyk Palace," which served cultural purposes for workers in the food industry during the postwar period. Recognized as a local cultural heritage monument of architecture in Ukraine, the theatre stages operatic and ballet productions for young audiences. Since 2019, it has maintained a policy of presenting works from the world operatic repertoire performed in the Ukrainian language. The venue closed temporarily during the Russian invasion of Ukraine from late February to late May 2022, and its building sustained damage from Russian bombing on May 24, 2026.
