The Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway Historic District encompasses the main roadway constructed within Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California between 1925 and 1951. Designed according to National Park Service principles emphasizing naturalistic road design and the National Park Service Rustic style, the road was built to provide tourist access to the park's central features while replacing earlier primitive routes that skirted the periphery. The thoroughfare, now designated California State Route 89, cuts directly through the park to its major scenic attractions, representing a significant example of early-twentieth-century national park infrastructure planning.
