Demolished or destroyed.
The Leipzig Synagogue, a Moorish Revival structure completed in 1855, stood as a major religious and architectural landmark in Saxony. Designed by Otto Simonson, the building exemplified the ornate aesthetic favored for Jewish houses of worship in nineteenth-century Germany. The synagogue was destroyed by Nazi forces on November 9, 1938, during Kristallnacht, when coordinated attacks across German territories targeted Jewish communities and their institutions.
