The Lexington Opera House, located at 401 West Short Street in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, was built in 1886 by renowned architect Oscar Cobb following a fire that destroyed its predecessor at the corner of Main and Broadway in January of that year. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theatre remains one of only fourteen pre-1900 American theatres with fewer than 1,000 seats still operating as a live performance venue. Now owned and operated by the Lexington Center Corporation, it continues to host a diverse programming schedule including ballet, opera, Broadway tours, comedy, and family productions.
