Located at 539 Washington Street in Boston, the Boston Opera House is a performing arts venue with a complex history spanning nearly a century. Originally opened on October 29, 1928, as the B.F. Keith Memorial Theatre, a movie palace designed by Thomas W. Lamb for the Keith-Albee chain, it became part of RKO shortly after its inception and operated as the RKO Keith's Theater for over fifty years. In 1980, the theater was rededicated as home to the Opera Company of Boston; however, the company closed in 1990 due to financial difficulties. Following a major restoration, the venue reopened in 2004 and now serves as the home of the Boston Ballet while also hosting touring Broadway productions.
