Located at 1 Hamilton Place in Boston, the Orpheum Theatre is one of the oldest theaters in the United States, built in 1852 by architects Snell and Gregerson. Originally called the Boston Music Hall, it served as the founding location of the New England Conservatory of Music in 1867 and housed the Boston Symphony Orchestra from the orchestra's establishment in 1880. The venue was converted to a vaudeville theater in 1900 and renamed the Orpheum Theatre in 1906. Following its acquisition by Loew's Theatres in 1915, it underwent substantial rebuilding. Today it operates as a mixed-use hall primarily devoted to live music concerts.
