Built in 1927 by the prolific architectural firm Rapp and Rapp, the Orpheum Theatre stands in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, one block from the State Capitol. Designed in the opulent Art Deco and Beaux-Arts styles characteristic of the movie palace era, this stone structure was originally constructed as a cinema but has evolved into a venue for live performance and musical theater. Recognized as Madison's finest surviving example of 1920s movie palace architecture, the Orpheum holds multiple heritage designations, including listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places, and status as a Madison Landmark.
