The Temple Theatre, located at 2320 8th Street in Meridian, Mississippi, is a Moorish Revival movie palace completed in 1927 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Designed in the Moorish Revival style with Byzantine motifs, the theater features ornate marble fountains and large bronze chandeliers. When it opened in 1928 for silent films, it boasted one of the largest stages in the United States, surpassed only by New York City's Roxy Theater. The theater retains one of only two Robert Morton theatre organs still installed in their original locations in Mississippi, maintained by the Magnolia Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society. Originally programming vaudeville and movies, the Temple now serves as a year-round venue for community events, live stage shows, plays, and concerts.
