Longwood, an octagonal mansion in Natchez, Mississippi, stands as the largest structure of its kind in the United States. Designed by architect Samuel Sloan and begun in 1860, the villa blends Italianate and Moorish Revival styles in an ambitious antebellum composition. Built partly by enslaved laborers, the mansion—also known as Nutt's Folly—reflects the architectural ambitions of its era. Today recognized as a Mississippi Landmark and National Historic Landmark, Longwood remains a distinctive testament to nineteenth-century American domestic design.
