The Carnegie Library of Valdosta, a Neoclassical structure completed in 1913 at 305 West Central Avenue, was constructed with a $15,000 Carnegie grant and an additional $40,000 in local funds. Designed by local architect Lloyd V. Greer as his first major commission, the building opened in 1914 and initially served as a public library before transitioning to a branch facility and eventually, in the latter decades of the twentieth century, becoming home to the Lowndes County Historical Society and Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the building stands as a landmark of early twentieth-century philanthropic architecture in Georgia.
