Monroe Carnegie Library, a Neoclassical limestone building erected in 1917 in Bloomington, Indiana, exemplifies the public library movement funded by Andrew Carnegie's Foundation. Constructed with a $31,000 grant, the one-story rectangular structure sits on a raised basement and measures approximately fifty by forty feet, featuring distinctive arched windows and a projecting arched entryway topped by a pagoda-style roof. A two-story concrete block addition was appended in 1955. After the Monroe County Public Library vacated the building in 1970, it served various civic purposes before the Monroe County Historical Society established the Monroe County History Center there in 1994, preserving local artifacts and genealogical records. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the structure remains a landmark on East Sixth Street and tourist destination.
